What I learned about the marathon in Nha Trang

You learn a lot about yourself when you run a marathon. My first marathon was in Berlin. My second was just a few weeks ago in Nha Trang, together with 22 other Infodation participants. A marathon feels almost symbolic. Because running one is not so different from the software projects we work on every day – with teams in both the Netherlands and Vietnam. You need to have a clear goal in mind. One clear, shared goal. Otherwise, you won’t make it.
“A marathon is run together – step by step, with one goal. Just like at Infodation, where we build software that goes beyond the finish line.”

Two offices, one mission

At Infodation, we have two offices. One in Bodegraven. One in Nha Trang. Different languages. Different time zones. Different cultures. But we also have something that connects us: a shared goal.

And yes, I know it may sound easy – maybe even a little cliché: “Building the best software.” But that is truly what it’s all about for us. Not because it sounds good in a pitch deck. But because everything we do ultimately comes down to that. Building smart software that really adds value. For our clients. For the users. And for each other.

Without a goal, no direction

If you start a marathon without knowing where the finish line is, you’ll give up halfway. Then all you’ll feel is fatigue, doubt, frustration. But if you know what you’re working toward – you can take on all those miles.

The same goes for our projects. Without a clear direction, you get lost in technical decisions, scope changes, and noise. That’s why we believe so strongly in a shared goal. One vision. One path.

When that’s in place, it doesn’t matter where you are – in Bodegraven or in Nha Trang. Then we sprint, walk, rest, and move forward again. Together.

Success is never achieved alone

I am incredibly proud of the team that ran the marathon. Not only for the accomplishment itself, but even more for what it symbolizes: that at Infodation we go after things together. That’s exactly what we also do in our work. And I believe that if we keep that spirit, we will create software that goes beyond the specifications. Software that truly makes a difference!

To the finish line – and beyond

The marathon in Nha Trang was just a snapshot in time. But the feeling of working toward something together, that stays. In everything we do. Whether you’re designing, testing, building, or talking with clients – remember: we run together. And the finish line? It’s always somewhere new. But if we keep our goal sharp, we will always get there.
